The Friends Meeting House sits in its peaceful garden and burial ground
The Friends Meeting House was built in 1852 but fell into disuse by the 1880s. Later occupied by the Salvation Army, it was used as a school between 1945-1960. Subsequent reoccupation by the Quakers led to much needed repairs before a full refurbishment in 2006 transformed it into the modern building it is today.
While it is the home to North Derbyshire Quakers, the Friends Meeting House shares its rooms with the surrounding community who attend classes, talks and discussions during the week. We are particularly proud of the range of music we host including the Bakewell Community Choir, the Northern Spirit Singers, a local band and our own Quaker Carols by Candlelight evening.
The Friends Meeting House is just behind the Methodist Chapel on the High Street at the far end of Chapel Row, and just a couple of minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of Bakewell town centre. A concessionary path joins Chapel Row with Dagnall Gardens behind the Meeting House.
The Meeting House has a small car park which at busy times is best left for disabled parking and emergency services.
